1. Lotrščak Tower
Do you love panoramic views from the heights? One of the most remarkable places in Zagreb is the Lotrščak Tower. It is located at the top of the cable car located in the Old Town area.
The tower was once part of the city’s fortifications, which were completed in 1266. It was built to protect the southern entrance to the city. The good news is that the price of an entrance ticket to the Lotrščák Tower is very affordable, making it a great choice even for those on a tight budget.
Once inside, you just have to climb up several staircases between floors. Each floor has different views from the windows. There are information boards on each floor that tell guests in English and Croatian what awaits them on each floor.
At the top there is an observation deck that offers an amazing panorama of the lower and upper cities. Other sights such as Zagreb Cathedral, the Octagon and St. Mark’s Church can also be seen from here.
Clear sunny days are often the perfect time to visit the Lotrščak Tower to climb it and enjoy all the views.
2. Grič Tunnel
The Grič Tunnel is a pedestrian tunnel located underneath the Grič neighborhood. This tunnel complex is a tunnel hall, which is connected from west to east by two long passages with entrances on Stjepan Radić Street and Mesnička Street. Four passages also face south.
The tunnel was built during World War II for use as a walkway and bomb shelter. After the war ended, the tunnel became unnecessary and soon fell into disrepair.
In the 1990s, the tunnel began to host Croatia’s first raves and soon became a shelter during the country’s war of independence. In 2016, the tunnel was officially opened as a tourist attraction. It also hosts cultural events.
Walking through the tunnel is already a fascinating activity in itself. But while finding the entrances to the tunnel is great, finding the four passages can be a challenge. The route comes in handy if you need a shortcut and saves you from having to climb a hill.
The tunnel is open from 9am to 9pm daily, so it’s worth exploring if you have time. During the holidays, you can see Christmas lights in the tunnels.
3. Museum of Broken Relationships
Where do broken hearts go? Probably to the Museum of Broken Relationships in Zagreb. This quirky museum is located next to St. Mark’s Church, and its home is a Baroque palace.
